Even amongst the poor there is a lower class. For example a mother of nomadic descent bringing up five children on her own, one of them being handicapped. The father and provider having disappeared, the family has lived out in the open for years without a roof over their heads. Just a plastic sheet as a minor protection against heavy weather.
In this dead-end situation there is little time to plan a better future. And yet it would be the first step out of the misery.
To give the mother some breathing space we built a two-bedroom flat for the family – this allows the mother and children to take their future into their own hand to a certain extent.
Covering the basic needs "housing” has had an effect. Today the family lives in a small flat and they earn their own living trough rabbit-breeding and part-time jobs in the neighbourhood.
