A social insurance system, something which is taken for granted here in Switzerland, is non-existent in Egypt. If one become ill and cannot afford a doctor, that‘s bad luck. Very simple, but tragic. Far too many children die daily from illnesses which could easily be cured.
With this in mind we have decided to financially support the establishment of a basic medical care for poverty-stricken families, as well as providing counseling. Also ill and invalid children out of poor families should receive a symbolic contribution for urgently needed medical assistance. In short: general practice is needed.
Since January 2009 we are ready for action: we have established a three storey clinic, the basic equipment has been prepared and is ready for use and the local residents can be examined and treated by two doctors.
To safeguard the future of the clinic and to meet the enormous demand of the patients, we urgently need everyday medication, more medical machines and instruments. Naturally both male and female doctors wishing to support this important project by working voluntarily in the clinic for a few months would be warmly welcomed.
